Word thinks the first page of my four page document is Page 2. With my cursor
on the first page, the status bar shows:

Page 2 Sec 1 1/4

There's only one section in this document. I've looked for hidden codes and
find none. I'm pretty good with Word and numbering, but this is a new one for
me. Help is greatly appreciated!

Go to Insert | Page Numbers and click on Format... Change from "Start at
(2)" to "Continue from previous section." OK to close the Page Number Format
dialog and Close to close the Page Numbers dialog.

Hello Allison

each section has a bunch of properties in Word (like: page size and
orientation, margin, header and footer contents, etc.). Where the
numbering of a section starts is also a section property.

In Word 2003, I think you had best go to Insert | Page Number | Format
dialog. Set "start at: 1" (or: from previous section), hit OK and CLOSE
afterwards.

Right you are! And to think all these years I thought Word wouldn't allow you
to start at any old page number without a section break. Something new EVERY
day!

Many thanks!
