Page numbering in Microsoft Word is totally messed up. How can I.

Even if I turn page numbering off, when I try to re-number pages, the results
are chaotic. Some pages still carry page numbers from prior numbering. The
page numbers used by "page numbering" do not correspond to what is displayed
in the lower left corner of the Word screen.

I have to feel like there is some fairly simple way to solve this problem.

Are there multiple sections in this document? If so, each
section can have its own numbering scheme. Changing
numbering in one section will not necessarily change in
others, unless they are linked.

Another tip is *don't* use Insert | Page Number. Instead, view
Headers/Footers and type in what you want yourself, using the H/F toolbar to
insert the page number and navigate between sections.
