Hi

I'm using Word 2007 Home/ Student edition. I'm working on an essay and would
like to number the pages "1 of 12, 2 of 12, etc" (or however many the total
turns out to be)

Is there a way to do this - and if so how, please?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Open the footer (Insert > Footer > Edit Footer) - and insert the following
{Page} of {Numpages}. There are tools to insert this but it is quicker to
simply type it (using CTRL+F9 for the field brackets). Press ALT+F9 to
toggle the display to show the numbers.

Many thanks - yes that worked fine - though the {Numpages} worked better as
just the number typed in - i.e. {Page} of X

Thanks again

Just typing in the number of pages will not help if the length of the
document changes, whereas a numpages field will show the length of of the
document .... but if it works for you :).

Aha! Revisited the footer - and see what you mean... as we're now up to 15
pages and counting this is much more useful!

Thank-you

Turn on the option to automatically create backups (Word Options > Advanced
save) and from tike to time copy your document elsewhere. We have seen far
too many lost projects recently :(
