Page Number

Hello,

I have a cover page - showing no number
A table of contents - with 2 pages in the i, ii format
The Fourth page starting the numberin format as 1,2,3

There is an even break after page 3
The fourth page works fine. But the 2 table of contents pages are showing
iii and iv as the page numbers. Why is it adding an extra page?

Page1 =
Page2 = iii
Page3 = iv
Page4 = 4
Page5 = 5

Thanks,

Your title page *should be* i--that's publishing convention--and if it has a
blank back, then the TOC begins on page iii. If you really want the first
page of the TOC to be i, however, you will need to insert a section break
after the cover page and start numbering at i in Section 2.

To answer your question about the blank page, when you use an Even Page
section break, you're telling Word you're duplexing. And whenever you are
duplexing, Word "knows" that a page with an odd page number must be an odd
(recto) page.

Moreover, you should not be using an Even Page break. You should be using
(if anything) an Odd Page break and starting the section at page 1. It is
against all publishing convention to continue the roman page numbering with
the arabic. If you use roman numerals for front matter, they should be a
separate run of numbering; alternatively, start numbering at the beginning
and number continuously with arabic numerals. See
