I had an OS failure - bluescreens that wouldn't let the
OS load at all. I had to reimage the hard drive, using the
CD that came with the Gateway pc when I bought it two
years ago. Once I had it back to a stable operating system
again, I find that when I try to access a particular
website, I get "page not found". This happens whether I
type in the URL or click on a link from a search engine.
It only happens on the pc at home - I can access it from
anywhere else (I tried at work, at the library and on a
friend's pc). All of the settings for security etc are the
original settings. I can access any other site but not
this one. Any suggestions as to where to look or what to
look for would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
It really depends on what site it is, but my guess would
be that it isn't passing one of the perimeters set under
your Security, Privacy, or Advanced tabs in the Tools
section of Internet Explorer.
First, try lowering the privacy to the lowest setting. If
you can access the site, just keep upping the Privacy
notches until you are unable to access the site. If you
can only access it on the lowest Privacy setting, click on
the Edit button under the Privacy tab. Add the address of
the site you are trying to access, and click "Allow". Then
see if you can access the site with the default Privacy
setting on.
If that does not work, try going under the Security tab,
and adding the site to your "Trusted Sites" list. To do
this, click the Trusted Sites icon, and then
the "Sites..." button.
If neither of those work, reply back =)
