Page file problems

I rcently noticed my internet connection showed a lot of activity (both
sending and receiving) even though i had no web pages open. I closed my
internet connection (through a Belkin wireless adsl router) but my computer
slowed down and eventually shut down my anti-virus due to "low on virtual
memory" I rebooted and opened task manager and noticed the page fille was
slowly growing until again i ran out of memory. I'm running daily updated AVG
Free, Ad-Aware Professional and Edwido Guard. Convinced i had a virus or
trojan I scanned with all of these and found nothing wrong. I then downloaded
the latest version of Stinger which also found no problems. i have now
re-formatted and reinstalled windows (with all updates) and still the probelm
persists. As long as i keep my internet connection open the page file stays
at about 200 - 250mb but opening web pages is very slow and when i disable my
internet connection it rises to nearly 2gb then shuts everything down. I am
using XP pro with 512 mb memory

Canm anyone help please

Hi there Eddy,

It sounds like you might have a memory leak caused by an application.

What you want to do is open your Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and select the
Processes Tab. Then, click on the Mem Usage header to sort by memory from
lowest to highest. Keep it running for a bit, and then write down what
processes are using the most memory, and how much memory they are using.
Post that list on here and we might be able to track down a solution for you.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
