i had posted this in ie 6.0 outlook express newsgroup prior, but with a
different subject. i was directed to this site.
using win 98se, 384 ram, pentIII 450mhz, I.E. 6.0, msn 8.5

i receive this error message:
"page cannot be displayed" in I.E. the correct address views at this time in
the address bar

& "We can't find "www-name-of-site-here.com" in msn

when i perform these tasks:
upon starting I.E. from desktop icon or quick launch icon
click a favorite
click sublink on a web page
manually enter in address bar, then click go/press enter

if i refresh the page 1 or more times i usually get the correct page.
it doesn't happen on all the favorites, and doesn't happen all the time in
other methods above.

completed antispyware, antivirus & cwshredder. researching spyware sites.

others have written in with page cannot be displayed-i'm monitoring them.
figured it might help to post using this subject. thank you.

any ideas how to correct? should i try & run the repair I.E. in the
add/remove programs?
thank you, len kiesling

Clear the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and delete
offline content.) It's often recommended that the Temporary Internet Files
(folder) be kept at
40-50 MB. Bigger isn't necessarily better.

thanks for replies! yes, i had cleared tif's, history, cookies, & temp files
thru deltree method as directed during my course of research, & still
experiencing the problem.

i received this direction from aumha forum:

could there be a problem with d-link router?

Yes, and/or your network.

could i try repair I.E. option in add/remove programs?

Sure, why not (if it's available)? All running applications, including AV,
closed please. (Actually, that was going to be my next suggestion.) Or you
could Overinstall IE6-SP1 (which does even more). Method 2 in this KB
article also works in Win98, Len: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378"

i plan to just reset router, & try repair I.E. first.

i will advise group after completing that. any further suggestions greatly
appreciated.

thanks, len

solved-so far.

i called d-link, advising i had 2 computers using router. (they are not
networked, just using router to connect to web). one worked fine as far as
accessing web & viewing pages. 2nd one had problem with viewing web pages on
first try, but usually viewed by refreshing. asked if i should reset router.
they said no, if one system was working, router not problem.

then, i repaired I.E. using add/remove programs in control panel, following
PA Bear's direction. (from http://aumha.org forum)

so far, ie ok. msn ok too. (i want to remove msn all together, soon)

hindsight 20/20, should have tried repair first. seemed like spyware to me.

thank you all, len
