Page Breaks in Word 2007

I have added page breaks to my document however I can only see them when I
have "Show/Hide" formatting turned on (the number of pages at the bottom left
corner shows correctly). When I print or print preview or turn off
Show/Hide, the page breaks are gone and the number of pages at the bottom
reverts back to the document without breaks. I had this problem last month
and fixed it however can't remember what I did!

This sounds strange. It seems as if the document might be damaged. Have you
tried deleting any section breaks and then copying the contents, except for
the final paragraph mark (¶), into a new file?

The file that I'm working with is an .htm export and because I need to add
page breaks, I'm saving it as a .doc file. I initially was saving the file
as .xls however I then had problems with 16+ digit invoice numbers
truncating. Exporting the file to Word retains these numbers however the
problem then was with page breaks.

I run this file twice a month and I figured out (or fell into) how to do
them on my last run however didn't write it down so was back to square one
this time! The only way that I've been able to figure out a work around is in
Page Layout - Paragraph - Line and Page Breaks to check off "Page break
before" which seems to force the break however doesn't remain checked so I
would have to do it for each one and when I have over 100 breaks to insert,
this is way too time consuming. My work around was to just copy the breaks
from my previous file.

I forgot to mention in my previous message that since your manual page
breaks are only visible when you display nonprinting marks, the breaks could
have been inadvertently formatted as hidden text (Font dialog box). You may
want to look into that.

Also, note that "Page break before" formatting can be saved to a paragraph
style, which certainly makes it easier to apply.

I checked a normal page break and it is formatted as hidden text and when I
uncheck it, it shows up. Not sure if this is normal or because I'm starting
with the .htm export. I created the style like you suggested and that will
work nicely. At least now I won't have to remember what I did last time!

I'm glad I could help.

I don't think the hidden formatting has anything to do with the fact that
the document was initially in HTML format. It's more likely that you, or
someone else editing the document, pressed Ctrl+Shift+H by mistake (the
keyboard shortcut for hidden formatting).
