Page Break

John

I started word and put a title on the top of my document and then started the
outline feature:
Title
-------------------------page break-------------------------
I.
A.
1.
2.
II
B
1.
2.
When I went to print layout it showed that the "Title was on one page and
the outline was on a second page. I finally discovered that somehow a page
break had been inserted between the title and the outline. Can you tell me
why this happened and how can I get rid of the page break.

Not sure why it happened, but to get rid of it simply press the delete key on
the row its inserted on. To see it visually, enter Word options, go to
display, and select "show all formating marks". There is also a paragraph
symbol "Home" tab of the ribbon that toggles the same thing. (word 2007)

Thank you for your quick response! I was thinking that the outline feature
has something that automatically puts in the page break? It would be helpful
to know how to turn it off, if that is the case.
Thanks again.

If you are creating an outline using Word's built-in heading styles, the
problem is that Headings 1-4 are formatted as "Keep with next," which means
that they will keep chasing each other until they fill a page, at which
point Word will have to insert a break. To solve this problem, remove the
"Keep with next" formatting (Format | Paragraph | Line and Page Breaks) from
some of the heading styles (at least Heading 3 and Heading 4, say).
