Page Break Bug

There is a bug with making a new page break where, if you do not have some
kind of whitespace character between the page break and the previous line,
the words will spread out as if they are trying to fill the line. For example

My paragraph is looking fine right now and it will continue looking fine
until I get to the next
line.
<pagebreak>

Please fix this.

To prevent justification of the last line, a page break must be preceded by
a paragraph break; in recent versions, Word automatically inserts a
paragraph break along with a page break.

It does that when you press control enter, but suppose that you know you
want a page break before something, but you want to go back and edit that
section later? And suppose that then you delete that paragraph break that
was automatically inserted? The temporary solution is "don't delete the
paragraph break," but that burden should not be on the user. There's no
benefit to having the last line justify, even without a paragraph break, so
it shouldn't happen, even if you go and delete the paragraph break. It's the
kind of minor annoyance that makes me choose Word over other rich text
editors, and the kind of annoyance that, given time, could make me switch
away from it.

But thanks for the response. Any other takers?

Sorry, but I don't see that having a paragraph break at the end of a
paragraph is much of a "burden" on the user. Naturally, it is easier to
prevent inadvertent deletion of paragraph breaks if you have nonprinting
characters displayed.

I suppose that we can agree to disagree on the count of whether ot not it's
a burden. Actually, let me put it this way: it is a burden to me; it has
been a thorn in my side for some time, and I'd like to see it fixed or fix it
myself. It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult: leave existing
page breaks as they are. Interpret all page breaks with paragraph breaks
next to them as just page breaks. Reset page breaks to be a composite
character of a paragraph break + the old page break which cannot be deleted
separately.

Is there any kind of programming interface that I can use to modify my
Microsoft Word to do this thing for me correctly? I know that there is a
Office API, but can it be used to do things like this (mod the vanilla
program to some new behavior)?
