pack134.exe

Jon C. Milliken

On 9/24 I received an email purportedly from Microsoft
Corporation Technical Bulletin
<[email protected]> subject: Last Net Pack and
which attached subject.

That e-mail is quoted: "MS Client
this is the latest version of security update,
the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which
resolves all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS
Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express as
well as three newly discovered vulnerabilities. Install
now to help maintain the security of your computer from
these vulnerabilities. This update includes the
functionality of all previously released patches." I did
NOT install pac134.exe because it did not have
an "authenticode" signature and my critical updates are
current.

Please advise whether pac134.exe is legitimate.

Thank You, Jon

No, it aint. Microsoft Never Sends Patches via e-mail. It's not
Microsoft - it's a virus called Swen.

You did not receive an update notification from Microsoft! You
received a virus-laden email message from a devious imposter!

A devious imposter is "spoofing" Microsoft and attempting to deceive you
into installing a malicious VIRUS in your computer! Delete the VIRUS
laden message immediately!

Microsoft never sends file attachments with email messages!
