P4T-E weird sound problem

I have a weird problem with the on board sound of my P4T-E. I have a dual
boot system: Win98 and XP. In XP all sound is very "scratchy" or no sound at
all. In Win98 there is no problem. Installed the latest Advance driver from
Asus. No difference.
It used to work OK but a while ago it started sounding on just one channel.
Now it's scratchy.

What can I do?

Fixed it...
The Line-in had a cable attached to it with a plug hanging around.
Line-in in Win98 wasn't enabled.
