P4P800E DELUXE......SATA and PATA together??

I have two WD 120gb PATA drives with Win XP as the OS.

I've added a Maxtor 250gb SATA.

My problem is, I can't seem to copy the Windows XP partition to the
SATA to be used as the boot drive and replace the WD PATAs.

I've tried the MAXBLAST software that came with the drive and
Partition Magic 8. Both tell me there are errors and cannot continue.

Windows file and setting transfer wizard won't copy ALL the files and
settings.

Where have I gone wrong??

I am new to this SATA and RAID thing on this board.

Also, when the SATA is formatted and used as additional storage it
shows up and operates ok, BUT, at every boot Windows says it found a
new IDE channel and secondary IDE channel. Then it says the hardware
is not installed .

Device manager shows yellow flags next to new IDE controllers.

Again, where have I gone wrong?

Regarding the IDE/Controler installation try going to your
*\Windows\system32 folder and see what it says about the ATAPI.SYS file
there. You will have to enable show system/hidden files to do this. There
is a good chance that it will not be seen as a MS file or that it is an
older version.

If it is not shown as a MS file it means you have Alcohol 120% or Daemon
tools installed which corrupts this specific file. Coorective action is to
delete the file from the system32 folder and wait a bit until XP replaces
it. This should be then seen as an MS file. You can then go into device
manager and remove the (!) controler entries and scan for new HW.

If the file is seen as an MS file when first checked then it may be the
version that shipped with XP or XP SP1. Either way you will need to go to
MS site and replace with the update they have there or install SP2 which I
believe has the correct file in its default installation.

Good Luck,
Len

Len, Thanks for the advice. I did have Alcohol 120 on my system.

That got rid of the (!) but the board still doesn't want to boot to
the SATA. It will recognize it as an additional drive if formatted
that way.
