P4C800deluxe / GeIl Bad memory performance

B

Bernd Stoeckl

I have 1GB GeIL Ultra Platinum PC3200 400MHz Dual Channel DDR Kit installed.
My timings are as per spec of GeIL 2-6-3-3-4
However the results of benchmarks are at least 20% lower it should be. AIDA
reports 4500Mb/s reading and 1600Mb/s writing. Sandra reports 2800Mb/sec
instead of 5000Mb/s in their comparison list.
Bios settings are Standard and AUTO for processor and bus speeds. HT is
enabled, timings for SPD are set manually as per description before.
What are your results out there. What's wrong. Is it the board or is it the
memory?

Thanks

I have a P4P800 although I have build a P4C800 before. Make sure you are
not overclocking the fsb..ie it is set to 200. If you increase it the PAT
won't work.

Also you might manually try setting the fsb to 400..ie set the chipset to
manual.
You can probably set the memory on manual and start with the timing you
indicate.

My experience is with settings to auto ..sometimes the boards don't default
to
max speeds.

fwiw..

What is that timing: 2-6-3-3-4? I don't recall seeing any setup in
BIOS for my memory. And I've been questioning my memory since I
installed it. Thanks.

You have to disable the 'Configure DRAM Timing by SPD' setting.

Read pages 4-18 and 4-19 in the manual for more info.
