Weird effect of BIOS settings on P4C800deluxe

Specs: P4C800deluxe P4-3GHZ GeIL Memory Bios1016
If I set the Power Management to disable (which I red was advised to get max
performance) I get the effect that the processor constantly runs in idle
mode up to 20% CPU usage. If then I perform any benchmark with several progs
the results are very poor.
If I switch the power management on, the idle usage goes to zero and
consequently the benchmarks are up to expectations.
Does anybody have an explanation for that?

another BIOS 1016 problem maybe? sounds like its a real dog based on other
postings.
