P4-~3G no fan?

Hi All,

I was looking at a mates system yesterday (re upgrading it) and
noticed there was no CPU fan (or ducted fan etc)?

This machoine had been made for min by another mate and I sustect
'cobbled together' from a selection of spare parts and not very well
at that (loose screws in the case, no plate round the i/o area etc).

So, the heatsink on this P4 looked quite good, loads of fine fins but
the top was curved (like a small humped back bridge) suggesting it
didn't use a directly fitted fan (but could have been taken from a PC
that used a cowling / duct?).

So, P4 ~3G without a fan .. is this ok ..?

All the best ..

Not really. Even the Zallman Flower things usually use a slow running
fan. Still, the CPU will throttle the speed when it gets toasty.

Ah, but that's not a good thing right?

So assuming I can't find all the m/b mounting stuff to fit to his
Asrock Prescott 800 mobo (I've not built an Intel based box since the
486!) maybe I could just fit a case fan blowing onto the existing
heatsink?

Well it shouldn't do any damage but it'll crawl.

I think so. That's all the Zallman ones are anyway.
