Asus Pundit-R: Will Heatsink/Fan on P4 HT CPU fit?

Hello, I'll be purchasing this little box to help with live video
production, and it looks like it'll work out great. Noisy CPUs aren't a
concern. I've read the newsgroups and reviews from Egghead, and was
curious to see if others have tried putting a brand new Intel P4
processor into the case and what luck they've had.

I want to purchase a brand new P4 CPU, but do i really need to purchase
the heatsink and fan? will it even fit? I'll buy a Northwood because
it runs cooler if i can't fit a fan onto it.

It matters not which CPU you buy, weather it be AMD or Intel all modern
CPU's require a heatsink and fan. With no cooler they will last about 30
seconds and most likely melt a hole in the board and the surrounding
components as well, with no fan and just a heatsink about 10 minutes, that's
how long it takes for windows to start loading all its heavy files on a
first install. Your looking at something that uses 90-110 watts of power,
think how hot a 60 watt bulb gets after just a few minutes.

and grab the user manual. It shows on page 16 the included heatsink/fan
combo and page 21 shows the installation instructions for the cpu/heatsink.

Hello, thanks for your help. I picked up the barebones sytem last
weekend and ordered a 3.0 Prescott Pentium 4. It's funny, the
descriptions online don't mention the fact that you can add a SATA
drive and that there is a proprietary heatsink and fan included. If i
had read the manual i would have realized that. in any case i
ordered the OEM version of the CPU which doesn't include the heatsink &
fan. Should be here soon! beats buying a brand new system, hopefully
it'll all fit in and work out.
