Oversized PST File

Colin

Hi guys,

I've got a client who never deletes his emails and his .pst file is now 1.92
GB. I assume this is the reason he can now no longer do anything with
Outlook (he's using 2002) - he can't open/delete/send/receive etc. Anyone
know a way I can fix this or recover the data ? Many thanks.

Regards Colin.

Greetings Colin

Eventually, the file will have to be split up.

Start by Archiving data older than 1/1/2006 into an archive.pst. (File
Archive...)

Or, for much more temporary relief, compress the PST file. (File >
Data File Management > Personal Folders > Settings > Compact Now)

You might end up running other repair tools later, also.

good luck!

how about running scanpst.exe?
that should be enough to fix the damaged pst file and to restore the
info.
and yes, the actual limit for the pst files is 1.8GB.

As a side note, IIRC, this limitation is removed in Outlook 2003, assuming
that the .PST file is formatted as a 2003 file,

Hi Colin,

1.92 GB is so close to the size limitation of Outlook PST file which is
2 GB, that's why your client can't open/delete/send/receive etc. Our
product Advanced Outlook Repair can recover mail messages, folders,
posts, etc. in PST files. You can download a free demo version at
http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe

Our product Advanced Outlook Repair is a powerful Microsoft outlook
recovery tool. It can recover PST files as large as 16777216 TB (i.e.
17179869184 GB). See more detailed information, please visit

In this situation you can try third party Outlook Split PST Repair software. It comes with powerful scanning algorithm by which it will split your complete PST files.
