Outlook XP Outgoing server can't be connected

We use optonline for our ISP and our email with McAfee as
our virus protection. When my wife uses her laptop at
home and connects via wireless router, she is able to send
and receive emails through Outlook XP. However, when she
goes to her office and uses the DSL connection there, she
can receive mail but not send it. I had found a possible
fix recommending Service Pack 3 for office but that
doesn't work. This just started happening. I've replaced
the profile but to no avail. There is no firewall at my
wife's work. It's just a real estate office with DSL.
Has anyone run into this or knows of a solution? THanks

It's nothing to do with SP3, or even Outlook. The SMTP server (outbound
mail) she's set up to use at home likely won't work at the office unless
it's one that allows you to send from anywhere after authenticating to it -
find out from your ISP if this will work. Or, find out what the SMTP server
is in the office, and whether she can use that by authenticating to it,
wherever she is. That way she can always use the same one without having to
change it every time she connects to the Internet on another network.

.Thanks for the info, however, it was working up until a
month ago. Optonline just has mail.optonline.net as it's
POP3/SMTP. Her work connection is literally just a router
connected to a switch, all dumb no firewall or anything
since they don't have company computers there. I've seen
some stuff on this around the web but no solution.

Well, something changed somewhere. Did you call your ISP?

There has to be an ISP there. Find out which one she can use by
authenticating to it, and use only that one.
