Outlook XP 2002 running on Windows Vista!

I have a problem that everytime I start Outlook to check my email it pops up
the enter network password box even though this was saved when setting up my
email account. Worked fine when I was running Windows XP but now with Vista
it pops this window up every time I start Outlook. As long as outlook is
open and I have entered this it will work but as soon as I close it and
restart it I have to put the code in again. Anybody have a solution?

That is a known compatibility issue between Outlook 2002/XP and Windows
Vista that won't be fixed as Outlook 2002/XP is out of mainstream support.

FWIW; There are many other older non-Microsoft software products that won't
run on Windows Vista and won't be updated. Ever owned a Mac? It is even
worse then and often requires to change your hardware completely as older
hardware models won't support the upgrade.

why does everybody always compare hardware with software.

intel dont give out free chips to all old chip users when they update their
microcode - hardware.
but a car manufacturer will update the pcm code in your cars computer
systems even if the car is no longer "current model" - software.

anyway back to the original issue: i too have run into this password problem
(office 2003 - which should be covered until 2008?), but it only occured when
i was remote. Whilst on net to my exchange server, it has never prompted me
for a password.

I have just purchased a new PDA running Windows, which requires me to use
Outlook 2002 for sync. I have just updated my laptop and OS software to Vista
Business however I have kept Office 2002 for the soul purpose of syncing with
my PDA. If MS are not going to fix this problem with Outlook 2002 is there an
update for my NEW PDA so that I can sync with the NEW Outlook?

No it doesn't. It may have come with Outlook 2002, but it doesn;t require
Outlook 2002. You can use Outlook 2003, which you should be able to find on
eBay (or elsewhere) at a decent price, or Outlook 2007.

Unless, of course, the car's electrical system can't support the radio.

Oh, and sometimes they have to charge for grinding out space to fit the
radio, or, occasionally, you get it installed somewhere in the car where it
isn't really supposed to be, making it an eyesore.

And, as for the original person, good luck finding software that has no
bugs.

Bill, I found a work around for the "BS - Outlook XP not in mainstream
support answer" . What has worked for me is to minimize Outlook (do not
close) and hibernate the the system (working on a Lenovo notebook). When I
bring the system back up the password is still active. Hope this helps.

Yes it runs but you will need to put in your network password each time you start outlook.

Hey,

I was having the same problem with my version of outlook. I just switched to
Windows Mail which came with Vista and it all works fine. I imported all my
other stuff from outlook.

Hey, I'm having the logon issue too, but this is with Exchange 5.5 server.
I've tried disabling Vista's TCP/IP6 and I've got SP3.
Windows Mail doesn't work with MAPI so that sucks...
Outlook worked when I first installed it (for one day), now all I get is the
"logon information was incorrect" error message. Everything is correct, it
worked once and now nothing.

Ideas??? Thanks!!

Can't you admit that it seems a little strange that MS can design a 'feature'
that forces you to have to buy updates to their other flagship product?

If you want to compare warrnaties between car companies and software
companies... bring it on. One is a whole lot more accoutable than the other.
And don't bother telling me that Office XP is out of warranty... I'll remind
you that MS talks about backward compatibility to set the expectation of
their customers.

What really bothers me is that Vista politely reminded me that the product
was no longer supported and would bring me directly to a website where I
could buy Office 2007. Maybe they should have put the developer of that
error message on the hotifx instead of trying to part me with my money.

There will be no hotfix for any developer to work on. When a product is out of support, it is not tested with newer software. Get over it.

All the talk about Outlook 2002 and earlier not being supported is fine and
dandy, but I have the same problem as the original poster with Outlook 2007
on Vista Home Premium. Vista is new on a laptop and Office 2007 is a clean
install (not upgraded). I also tried Vista Mail and the same thing happens.
Any suggestions for this?

BTW, since I'm here (not wanting to hijack a thread), I used to have Outlook
2007 on XP SP2 and my e-mail accounts set up as IMAP accounts. This doesn't
work with my current setup as above. Although the mail setup in outlook
tests OK, when it tries to log on to the IMAP server, it ultimately fails.
This happens with two different servers. I'd prefer to use IMAP over POP3 if
possible. Any suggestions for this?

When is the last time you heard of a car company not supporting a car that's
only 5 years old. This is typical Microsoft as far as I'm concerned. "We're
not supporting you, buy the new one that's drastically overpriced or be
