I get the following message when trying to open outlook2003
"cannot start microsoft office outlook. Unable to open the outlook window.
The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available.
Contact your administrator if this condition persists."

I am running windows xp and have been using outlook for over 2 years with no
problems. Help!

Are you connecting to an Exchange server or are you using POP3, IMAP or a
Live Hotmail account?

In case of the first; verify that your Exchange server is reachable.
In case of the second; verify that your pst-file is still in the correct
location. If so, check it for errors via scanpst.exe.
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/77

If your pst-file is no longer in its correct position, or you cannot repair
it, then you'll have to restore it from backup (assuming you have created a
backup).

Hi,
tks for the quick reply -- when I run scanpst.exe it ask for a file that I
want to scan. What file do I want to scan???? Sorry --- I'm a beginner at
fixing things.

Thanks

The default name of your PST file is outlook.pst, unless it has been renamed
to something else.

Hi,

Ran the outlook tools 2.2 looking for outlook.pst and it said it does not
exist. and no I don't remember when and if i backed it up. I connect via
pop3 to my service provider. Is there a way to find the outlook.pst file or
any way to save my e-mail addresses from any other file?

Thanks, spunkie

Did you try a simply file/folder search? Make sure you can view hidden files
& folders using the Advanced button. Search for *.pst to find them all,
there may be an archive.pst file as well which is older archived emails.
