Outlook won't close

Outlook freezes the system when trying to close it. Using Outlook 2003 with
all the patches and updates completely up to date. Have already tried
\uninstalling and reinstalling the program (several times). The only way to
get out of the problem is to reboot the system. Has anyone experienced
anything like this or does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Outlook
to close in a more normal fashion?
