Outlook will not send e-mails - can I link it to my hotmail accou.

I have never been able to send e-mails through outlook. When I have tried,
they just sit in the outbox, like lonely lost little messages that are stuck
in e-mail limbo. I would like to connect it to my hotmail account. Maybe that
would remedy the problem. However, I am not sure how to do that. Any help
would be appreciated!
 
What version of Outlook do you have? What sort of email account(s)?
