Outlook will not open .pst file

I exported my emails to a .pst file prior to reformatting my hard
disk. Now after re-installing Outlook it will not open the .pst file,
saying it is "not compatible with this version of the Personal Folders
information service." What does this mean?

Ensure read only flag of pst is off.
Presumably the pst is on yr hd and not on a cd.
In OL File/Open/Personal Folders....browse to pst

Read only flag is off. Am using outlook 2002. Under File/Open the only
option available is Outlook Data File. Choosing this and browsing to
the .pst file, I get same message as before.
