Outlook will not close and process continues to run

I have this same problem on two computers to differnet degrees. Basically,
when I close outlook it's process continues. On one computer it just keeps
me from backing up the PST file, on the other it keeps me from even closing
down the computer.

I've done the tools/options/other/advanced/add-ins and have unchecked what's
there.

I've disabled norton antivirus, and uninstalled my spam software, and have
made certain that office SP3 is installed. No change.

Here is a clue. If I open Outlook and close it quickly, teh process still
continues, but it's CPU usage goes to 0. IF however a task reminder pops up,
my CPU usage jumps to 45 to 51, and stays there. Even after I have "closed"
the application.

That becomes ar real issue.

Could it be that Office 2000 is no longer compatible with Windows?
