Hi All,

What is the difference between Outlook and Outlook
Express? Which would be the more prudent to use for
security purposes and filtering spam? TIA

Ron B.

The only question should be "Do you need the extra features in Outlook?" As
far as security, it depends on the versions of each, with the latest
versions the most secure. Outlook is probably more secure if you have the
most recent versions of both, but if you have Outlook 2000 it is far less
secure than OE6.

Frankly the filtering tools for spam are rather weak in each product, I
believe they are the same. I use Mail Washer, but there are other programs
that do a good job as well.

Security is provided by 3rd party anti-virus programs and a
router/firewall.

SPAM is invited in by either haveing an email address that
SPAMers can guess, or leaving your e-mail address on
newsgroups such as this. Outlook 2003 has a relatively good
SPAM filter, but is only updated occasionally.

As has been said, if you have the latest version of each, they are about
equal for security. For spam filtering, Outlook 2003 is excellent on its
own.

Your belief is in error. Outlook Express doesn't have any SPAM filtering,
except what the user can devise with rules. Outlook does contain a SPAM
filter.

IMO it is a weak rather filter. However my view is based on MS Word
2002.

Word 2002 doesn't contain ANY spam filter. Outlook 2002, however, does.
That one, I would agree, is relatively weak.

So it seems is my brain today. That should have been Outlook 2002 :-)

Outlook 2003 has a very nice Bayesian filter built in - it can't even be
compared to the lame filter in Ol2002.
