Outlook Today Page - Very Slow to Display

RE: Outlook 2003

I configured OL2003 to start up in the OutLook Today folder. The 'Homepage'
for Outlook Today is C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\1033\outlwvw.dll/outlook3.htm.

I open/start Outlook to use it when I need to then exit the program when I
am done. I have noticed recently that when Outlook is started any time during
the day, the program loads very quickly but the time it takes to 'load', that
is to display the Outlook Today page requires a bit of an annoying wait. My
cursor changes to the Busy display while I wait.

After reading an older post here, I closed Outlook, renamed the Outlook
Today .dll homepage to .old. I then opened Control Panel\Add and Remove
Programs, selected Outlook 2003\Change\ and selected Repair Outlook. When
the repair successfully completed, the Outlook Today .dll Homepage was
replaced. However, the repair did not address my problem; the long wait for
Outlook Today to display.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It is a minor annoyance but a pebble in my
shoe nevertheless.
thank you...

Do you have many items and folders showing in Outlook Today?
Virus scanner that integrate with Outlook and in this case also Internet
Explorer (which is used in Outlook 2003 to render the Outlook Today page),
can slow this process down. Especially script scanners. Look in the
documentation of your anti-malware suite on how to disable/uninstall these
properly.
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/20

Also, having a lot of Restricted Sites configured in your Internet Options
(tab Security) can cause a slowdown.

Thank you...

My apologies for not reading your reply sooner. I must have missed the MSDG
notification email when you posted.

I have copied all the WEbsites you recommended as well as your post text.
I will start working on this today to see where I am and what can be done.

I will post back my results. Your continued support will be very appreciated.
thank you.

UPDATE:
thank you for the two links to OUTLOOK information. Both seem very
informative and I have saved each one for future use...
RE: my slow outlook. I used the information you suggested. I use Eset AV on
my WXP-SP3 and it has an Outlook Integration choice. I had enabled it
originally. By doing so ESET installed an add-on plugin. When I dis-abled the
Outlook integration in ESET, ESET removed the plug-in.... Based on the info I
found on the websites, I see not reason to re-install the ESET integration
plug-in.
However, when push came to shove, it appears that a Com Add-in was the cause
of the problem. I use the MS Outlook Backup Tool. Since things were still not
working I choose to 'remove' it. After doing so, I re-started Windows just in
case and WahLah, Outlook popped open and without missing a step, Outlook
Today Home Page was right there.
So thank you for the help. I found it very useful. Will I re-install the
Outlook Backup Tool? Not at the moment. I think I will re-visit the webpages
you provided, clarify for myself what is and what is NOT a 'backup'. If I can
do it by hand, I will just set a recurring task for myself to 'backup' the
..pst manually...
thanks again,
