Outlook today doesn't work

I recently built a new laptop running Office 2003 Professional SP3 and the
user is having problems with Outlook Today. When he opens Outlook he can look
at the calendar, mail, task, contacts, and etc fine but when he clicks on
Outlook Today icon the folder quit working and he can only look at the last
thing he looked at. I have tried repairing and even uninstalled/reinstalled
Office. Still have the same problem. If I shutdown Outlook and restart then I
can look at everything until he clicks on the Outlook Today icon. He would
like to set that to open as the homepage for Outlook but I just can't get it
to work. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have an anti-malware suite installed that integrates with
Outlook and/or Internet Explorer and does some sort of script scanning or
even script blocking preventing the Outlook Today folder from displaying
properly. See the documentation of your anti-malware suite on how to disable
this properly and try again.

The account is an Exchange account and our virus software is Norton 10.5 that
is installed from the network. Our network administrators push only the
updates that are approved by them so we don't get every patch that Microsoft
provides. Would this anti-malware suite be tied to some patch? I'm not aware
of any other software that would be install on this laptop unless it came
pre-installed from the manufacturer. I can check on this but not sure what to
look for.

I'd still start with disabling that for troubleshooting purposes. Contact
your network admin if you don't have permissions to do so.
It could very well be that Norton expects certain patch levels to be
installed and based their products on that.

Outlook 2003 uses Internet Explorer to render the Outlook Today page. When
there is something wrong in IE, it could also impact Outlook.

When you start Windows in Safe Mode and it works then, it's very likely to
be your anti-malware suite.

Thanks Roady.

I didn't know that Outlook Today used IE and I just reinstalled it and all
my problems were solved.
