Outlook startup issue

I have Outlook 2002. Each time I close the program, and reboot or reopen the
program I get an error msg. "the data file: personal folders were not closed
properly. the file is being checked for problems". At this point it takes
3-4 minutes to run this check and finally restart Outlook. What am I doing
wrong re: the closing of the program?

The one thing I noticed is that when I close Outlook, it no longer asks me
if I want to delete the files from the deleted items folder.

Something on your PC is not letting Outlook close properly. See
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/outlookdoesntclose.htm for some things to
check.
