system: Windows XP Pro
outlook stalls when sending an email with an attachment. did not have this
issue up till now. previously sent many emails with attachement. what could
be causing it to suddenly stop? sometimes it will say successful but the
email stays in the outbox. sometimes it freezes at the detail screen

Do you scan outgoing mail with an antivirus scanner? If so, disable the
scanner and see if that changes anything.

I am using Windows Live OneCare; turned off virus scan and spyware
monitoring. no change. the send/receive status shows as sent, however the
email is still in the outbox. i have tried files of different sized and
types and still no luck

i didnt install any new hardware of software. it just started after a boot
up.
thanks

If the messages are still in the Outbox, then Outlook didn't get a clear
acknowledgement from your server that the message was transmitted. Turn on
diagnostic logging and see what's happening in the conversation between
Outlook and your server. YOu don't state your Outlook version, so here's a
reference for Outlook 2003/2007.

Outlook 2007
i followed the link and edited the registry. what will the file names be
that i am looking for to see the diagnostic logging.
in addition, i clicked the help icon to find help on diagnostic logging and
i received this error: "there is a problem with one or more installed help
files. Please repair your office installation and try again.
i had tried the repair last night (thru add/remove) and it froze after about
60% completion so i cancelled the repair and havent attempted it since
sounds like i have something else going on now.
i just remembered the only thing i have tried to do lately was install
flashplayer (per sprint mobile i was trying to install) and it never did
install. i went to flashplayer help and it sent me to this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displayLang=en
this was supposed to solve the flashplayer issue, which it did not. i think
it edited my registry and caused an issue, but i dont know what. maybe this
will help my issue?

There should be no reason to edit the registry, considering that there's a
checkbox that enables logging.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300479/en-us describes the names for Windows
versions other than Vista. However, for any version of Outlook, they'll be
in %temp%

Does Help>Detect and Repair work?

I don't know much about this.
