Outlook Search doesn't include sub-folders

P

PbghLar

I'm a new user of Outlook 2007 and am very disappointed in the embeded search
function. I can do a very narrow search limited to one specific folder (but
which will not search sub-folders), or I can search the whole universe of
every single folder and sub-folder in every open PST file in my mailbox.
There doesn't seem to be any choice other than very narrow or extremely broad.
In Outlook 2003, the Advanced Find feature would search a folder and every
one of its sub-folders, but I can't make Advanced Find do the same thing in
Outlook 2007. I have a very large and heavily sub-divided network of e-mail
folders - having to search one folder at a time is just not going to work.
Any suggestions?

Tools-Instant Search-Advanced Find will do the trick.

Outlook 2007's advanced find supports subfolders - click the browse button
to select it. Instant search is all or nothing.

FWIW, filing messages in a myriad of subfolders really isn't a good way to
manage mail, in part because finiding it is much harder.

Thank you very much - I would never have though to activate a 'browse' button
when I was already pointing at the folder I wanted to search.

As to not using sub-folders - is there another approach? I get 100 - 200
e-mails each and every day on a wide range of topics and often have to make
reference to individual e-mails I received months ago. I use all those
folders and sub-folders to help me keep track of what I have and haven't
dealt with and to help locate things when I need them. What other method of
organization exists within Outlook?

Categories, views, and search folders are the recommended methods for
organization. Keep everything in just a few folders (I use 2 - business and
personal) and use categories and search folders to find items. A handful of
folders is fine but too many is too hard to manage.

Hi,

I've a question somehow related to this, witch is:

When I try to search in the PUBLIC FOLDERS, I can't manage to select
the Subfolders option in the advance find. I've read a little of it in
Microsoft and it seems that there's a king of limitation for this to
happen. But all the messages in PUBLIC FOLDERS are in a single
computer, and they are shared with everybody, so is it or not possible
to search subfolders in the PUBLIC FOLDERS?

Thanks in advance,

JC
