How do I search the current folder I am in and its sub-folders?

Outlook 2007, Windows XP with the Desktop Search Engine.
I have about 15 folders in my Inbox, with sub-folders, many with
sub-sub-folders.
1. How do I search any of these folders plus all of the sub-folders and
nothing else? I only seem to be able to search a single folder, or all mail
items.
2. Once I get the hang of searching a folder and all sub-folders, how do I
search for everything in that set of folders? In Outlook XP and prior, if I
put nothing in the search criteria I was able to get all emails in those
folders. Now if I put nothing, no search is performed. I have tried wild
cards such as a blank, *, ?, % but nothing works. I also tried letters of
the alphabet, thinking that 'e' would be pretty common but it seems to pick
up whole words only and none of these common single letters are whole words
found in most emails e.g. newsletters.

Figured it out - you can get to the old search window through this path:
On the Tools menu, point to Instant Search, and then click Advanced Pane.

This is the original search pane from older versions of Outlook, and does
what I need.

I am surprized an Outlook guru wasn't able to help me find this.
