I had to re-install Office 2000 after a crash and after
re-nstalling XP Professional. All my old files are
intact but Outlook doesn't open with my old mail, folders
and contact list.

How do I get Outlook to recognize these?

Does it give you an error or does it open up empty?

Locate your pst-file and then connect to it by File-> Open-> Personal Data
File...

Thanks Robert. It's empty.
Locate your pst-file and then connect to it by File->
Open-> Personal Data File...

I did that using Search and found a 26MB file called
Outlook.pst which was dated just before my crash. It was
in a directory whose name I wrote down. When I opened
Outlook to connect to the file, I couldn't find the
directory listed. How is it that Search dfound the file
but even My Computer can't find the same directory?

This is a bit weird.

Found the .pst file using Search but couldn't find it
using Outlook. So I located the file again using Search,
copied it to my C:\ root directory and bingo!

Thanks for the help.

.

It it (was) located in a hidden folder. In Explorer you can use Tools->
Folder Options... to make it visible (next time) ;-)
