outlook.pst is gone. What can I do to retireve it?

When I open Outlook 2007 I get this message: "Cannot open default e-mail
folders. Errors have been detected in the file C:\....Outlook.pst." Then it
says to run scanpst.exe which I did. scanpet.exe says outlook.pst does not
exist. Now what??? Outlook has been performing flawlessly up til now.

I am running Vista.

And you have left out the rest of the story.
This does not happen all by itself and for no reason. Post precise steps to
repro your problem.
 
You have to tell scanpst where your PST file resides. Be sure to make a
backup of your PST file before running scanpst.
