moving outlook.pst file

I recently moved outlook.pst, along with other archive files, to a different
directory. After I moved it, I was able to start Outlook by telling it where
to find the file. I've also gone through all the settings in Outlook to
change the locations of data files.

However, although now I can read the existing outlook items, I don't seem to
be able to add things to it. For example, when I tried to download emails,
it gave me an error message saying "cannot find <the default location>", as
though it still expects to find the outlook.pst in the old directory.

Please help.

Which version of Outlook are you using?
Which mail account type are you using?
Which settings did you modify?

You can set your default delivery location in your account settings.

I use Outlook 2007. I have both yahoo and gmail accounts.

I've modified the "data files" menu that shows up with "account settings".
I've modified all the archive files to point to the new directory.

I still gets a outlook.pst-not-found message when I clicked on
"send/receive" , and Outlook is still expecting the outlook.pst to be in its
default directory.

Do you have a pst-file listed with the "Default" comment when you go to
File-> Data File Management...?

I have have outlook.pst as default there.

Everything works now, and I have not made any change to any settings. It
seems that Outlook slowly and gradually figured out what to do. I couldn't
download email, and then I could, but the rules didn't work. Now the rules
work too.

Mysterious....

After assigning a new default delivery location you must restart Outlook for
changes to take affect.

Either way, no matter how it cured it in the end; it's good to hear it is
working correctly now again.
