I have outlook 2007 on windows vista. It crashed saying that the outlook.pst
could not be opened. Adviced me to run scanpst.exe. When I did, scanpst said
that cannot continue.
I managed to create a new profile and now outlook opens again. but now i
cannot retrieve my old email nor my contacts and appointments.

Please help!

If scanpst cannot repair your PST, your only option is to purchase a
commercial PST repair tool. Google for "PST repair".

Thanks Brian. One question. When i search in windows for specific stuff that
i do remember, such an email, or a contact, windows does find them, and can
open them too.

I have seen in these threads that people complain about those comercial pst
repair tools. Is there anything that can be done other than buying that?

Not if scanpst doesn't work.

Thank you Brian. Just the same way you would search for a file (start,
search), I can search for specific emails and they are found and can be
opened.

Using Windows Desktop Seach or some other search tool?

I believe it is the windows desktop search, the one that comes with windows.
I don't see a name on the program, it only says "search". if you have windows
vista, it is the one that comes up when you click on the "start" button (that
now has the windows logo), next to the shut down button.

If Windows Desktop Search can locate your mail, then the PST _must_ still be
on yhour disk and if you're searching and do not find it, then the only
explanation is that you have not enabled viewing hidden files and folders.
