Outlook .PST file - Missing emails...

My first posting, I hope one of you can help me.

My question is in regards to Outlook 2003 on an XP machine.

For reasons that we won't go into, I decided to erase and recreate my user
account. I backed up my documents, but because my email account is on IMAP,
I decided to skip that step. Big mistake. My outgoing email was being
stored on the SENT ITEMs mail folder which was NOT being synchronized with
the IMAP folders. A thousand messages, which I really need back. Okay, I
run a data recovery tool and extract my .PST file. I repaired it with
SCANPST.EXE and imported it and later also tried FILE/OPEN/OUTLOOK DATA FILE.

The frustrating thing is that the .PST also only contains my IMAP files and
the SENT ITEMs folder remains empty. Is there a step I'm missing or is there
another file that I need to track down in order to get my files back or am I
doomed?

regards,

Dave

You've recovered the wrong pst-file. You might want to look if you can
recover another one.

I thought of that, but every .pst file I recovered was just another version
of my IMAP emails. Is it possible that the file I'm looking for does not
actually possess the .pst suffix?

Dave

Only when you were using with an Exchange server but then the messages would
be kept on the Exchange server.
