I cannot open the contact file in outlook 2000. Get error message "errors in
file .... run inbox repair tool". Ran inbox repair and at 68% of phase 1
error message directed to run scandisk tool. Ran scandisk / checkdisk,
re-ran inbox repair and still failed at 68% of phase 1. outlook.pst is >2g
(<500kb). Have contacts intact on PDA but cannot hotsync back into outlook
...... help ...... thanks.

what I meant was that the outlook.pst file is less than 2gig so truncating
the file is probably not the solution - I could be wrong, but have not tried
in fear of loosing some of the contacts .....

is greater than, not less than. So what is it's size and why were you
considering truncating it?
If continually alternating the Inbox Repair Tool with a scandisk utility
fails to repair the PST file, you can use the following tool to find out
what can be fixed:
http://officerecovery.com/outlook/index.htm
How did you manage to corrupt this file in the first place?

Right now, make a backup of your PDA. If you're using WIndows Mobile, you
should be able to run a backup from witrhin ActiveSync and using the backup
tool that is usually included with the PDA. Use both methods. Then create
a new PST in Outlook and make it your default. See if you can sync the PDA
and get the data back. If so, then copy from the old PST what you can.

Might be your PST file got corrupted and even the freely provided Inbox Repair Tool is not able to resolve the issue. here are the solutions which you can try to fix the problem:

Restore your PC to a previous date with the help of a recently created Inbox Repair tool.
Remove all possible viruses or other possible PC threats out of your system.
Update all sectors of Outlook program.
Reduce the size of PST files

There might be some chances that you would regain access to your PST files by following above ways. but if all fail, you finally need to use a professional PST Crop Tool to fix the issue.
