Outlook Preview Pane

The help in Outlook says it is possible to see email
content without opening the mail.
Is this correct and if so does it mean that email carried
viruses do not open in the preview pane? Therefore
allowing me to see the sender and email without
activating the virus.
Can you advise please.

If you don't have Outlook 2003, I would not recommend using the preview pane
for messages from unknown sources, especially if you don't have very good
spam filters and a virus checker that is updated regularly. In Outlook 2003
the new Reading Pane is more secure than the old Preview pane. Either upgrade
to OL2003 or use the Auto-preview instead.

I would content that SP3 for both Outlook 2000 and 2002 provide a safe
environment for the Preview Pane.
