Outlook picks another (wrong) address of recipient

H

hmm

I send messages to a recipient who appears, with different email addresses,
on both the Global Address List and my Outlook Contacts. I want to send to
the latter, but Outlook always sends to the former. I have tried:

1. Turning off automatic name checking, and typing the correct address.
2. Changing the order Outlook searches address books, so that it first looks
in Contacts and prompts me which address to send to.
3. Upgrading from Office 2000 to 2007 (which I did today).

None of these has solved the problem. It is especially frustrating, because
the recipient is only in part time, and does not even check messages sent to
his address on the Global list.

How do I solve this problem, so that Outlook will send the the correct
address, the one in my Contacts list?

Perhaps you should tell us how you are selecting the recipient.
Perhaps you should clear your autocompletion/autoresolution cache.

hmm

I tried:

- typing the address in its entirety (as mentioned in item 1).
- clicking on To: and selecting the address from Contacts.

In both cases, Outlook pulled email address from the recipient's entry in
the GAL, not the Contacts list. This was confirmed by double-clicking on his
display name, and getting the GAL-entry properties box.

In addition, I tried changing the spelling of the first name in my Contacts,
but it still picks off the GAL.

In the recipient's properties in the GAL (in the E-mail addresses tab), it
lists his email addresses (each preceded by "smtp:"); the list includes the
address in my Contacts (which it lists third). I suspect it is switching to
the GAL entry because it looks there and finds the address. But for some
reason the message is not sent to the Contacts entry.

I would have preferred Outlook keep things simple and only send to the
address I specify. I welcome any insights that might help me solve this
problem. Presently, there is no way to send emails to the recipient from my
PC.

Did you clear your autocompletion cache?
Since you have now "upgraded" your Outlook installation, you must also
create a new Outlook profile form scratch. Yours is undoubtedly corrupt.
