Outlook password issue

I have a user who was using a PST file. She did not password protect it but
now it is asking for a password. I searched her hard drive for a file ending
in .password or beginning with pst. because of a knowledge base article I
read on the support portion of Microsoft's site but could not find anything.
Does anyone have any ideas how to obtain or get around this password so she
can continue using it? It occurred after copying the PST file to a network
drive and it occurs on both the network drive and the local hard drive that
it was originally created on. Thanks for your help.

Hi Otis,

Unfortunately this .PST file might be corrupt. Prompting a user for a password is behavior that can be caused by corruption in the .PST. You might try copying the original file and testing
to see if the problem goes away.

I tried copying to a different location with the same result. I also ran
scanpst on it but it found no problems with the file and the problem
persisted. If you have any other suggestions, I am open to them. Thanks.

Try running a tool that strips passwords. One can be found here:

Stripping PST passwords wasn't its original purpose, only a side-effect, but
it's work a shot as long as you're not using an Outlook 2003 Unicode PST.
