Outlook opening up multiple connections to multiple email servers.

Good morning everyone!

I have a sporatic issue around my network with a small number of users, and
it is confusing to me.

The Outlook clients in question are opening up multiple connections to
multiple Exchange servers that we have spread out through out the company.

To expound, we have regional Exchange servers in our over seas offices, as
well as Blackberry servers interfacing with the Exchange servers, and those
are listed in the Exchange environments as well.

What would cause Outlook to try and make a connection with another server
that is anything other than the home server where the email box is located?

I am going to post this question into the Exchange support usergroup, and
ask it from a different tact, but I would like knowledge from someone who is
a specialist in Outlook that could explain to me what would cause an Outlook
client to attempt to open a connection to a different server and leave it
established? Running a netstat -aob listing on one of the machines showed
Outlook opening (and establishing) connections to 4 different regional
servers.

Thank you!
