Outlook not working after Vista Install

Just installed Vista and Outlook (Office XP Version) no longer works. Get the
message "Cannot start Outlook. Outlook requires Outlook Express 4.01 or
greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup from the IE5
folder located on your CD or threough the Windows Update website." I don't
have the CD and can only find a .bin file on the web which I don't know how
to run. Can anyone help please?

Hello,

Not sure if this helps or not.. But when I installed Vista Ultimate.
Vista deletes Outlook Express and renames it Windows Mail under Vista. Maybe
the reason you can't find Outlook is because it is now Windows Mail.. If it
is, Windows Mail transfers all of your previous settings, addresses, etc.,
into Windows Mail..

I thought Outlook Express was on systems prior to Vista. From what I
understand, Windows Mail is a new application and it is not renamed under
Vista.

Where did you hear that?

Sorry but what you wrote is incorrect. Outlook Express is a separate
program that comes with the XP operating system. It does not run in Vista.
The update of that on Vista is called Windows Mail. The installation of
Vista does not rename OE to Windows Mail. Windows Mail is it's own separate
application that is installed with Vista.

Outlook is different application than Outlook Express. There are various
versions of Outlook such as 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, which run in XP and can
be moved to to Vista. Outlook does not come with the operating system;
normally it comes as part of the Office Suite.

To the OP, I recommend you post to one of the outlook newsgroups. Good
folks there. Look under microsoft.public.outlook.

Would like to help if you can clear this up. If you're talking about
Outlook, some on this thread are confusing it with Outlook Express part of
XP.

You installed Vista to where that had anything to do with XP. Vista does
not come with Outlook of course, and it comes with Win Mail.

What does Outlook from Office XP have to do with your Vista install? Why
would Outlok from Office XP not work? Did you install Vista and then
install Outlook 2002 onto it as part of Office XP?

Thanks for your messages guys
Just to clear up any confusion. Outlook is part of the Office Suite and the
Version I have is Office XP Professional. Before upgrading to Vista I was
running XP Home as my Operating System. Outlook (not OE) worked fine under XP
Home but since the install of Vista I get the error message as posted
previously when I try to open it.
I have set up Windows Mail so I can at least read my emails but would like
the functionality I had previously in Outlook (contacts, calendar etc).
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office XP a couple of times without
success. Any more ideas please?

You need to check the Outlook newsgroups. I don't know if Outlook XP is
compatible with Vista.
