Outlook "not responding" when trying to attach files

Because of my business I need to attach a lot of PDF files with graphics on
them They are usually not very large (5KB or so) but when I try to attach,
it takes forever (freezes) and then I get a "not responding" message and I
have to shut it down. It then prompts me to send an error message to
Microsoft. Any suggestions?????
