Outlook never exits

I have a machine that has Windows 2000 Pro and Office 2000
loaded on it. We were having some issues with the machine
for some time, one of the issues being that Outlook never
exited. When you would go to File--Exit and Logoff
the "Please wait while Outlook exits" never goes away,
unless you end task on outlook.exe and MAPISP32. We
formatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything and
still are having this issue.

Try starting Outlook from the run command line with the /safe switch.
(i.e. Start > Run > "outlook.exe /safe") Allow Outlook to start up , wait a
few mins, the attempt to exit.

If all is good and it closes correctly, I would suspect you have an add-in
of some type that is leaving the Mapi Spooler active, causing the Outlook
process to remain active. You can inspect add-ins via the Outlook Tools
menu, Options, Other, Advanced, Add-in Manager.

If the problem is reproducible even when using the /safe switch, then I
would suspect you have another mail-enabled application on the system which
is making calls over to Outlook.exe. In this case, try closing all open
applications to narrow down which one needs the Mapi Spooler.

Hope that helps!!

Thank you!
