Outlook mail format changes using ActiveSync

I use Outlook 2002, ActiveSync 4.1 and a Windows Mobile 5 Phone Edition PDA.
The problem I have is that all my Outlook 2002 contacts are set up as "Let
Outlook decide best sending format" for email. For me this means that my
email attachments are sent with my mail. If I make a change to a contact on
my WM5 device and then synchronise, this process changes the contact mail
format on my PC to "Send using Outlook Rich Text Format" and in my case this
means any attachment isn't received by the recipient. I change it back
manually and the attachement goes through fine but after any further contact
change using the WM5 device, the format is altered again and the attachment
problem is back.

Any advice out there as I have scoured the internet and found only one other
similar question andthat has yet to be answered!

Any help greatly appreciated.

That's not what it means. The "Let Outlook decide..." setting means that
Outlook will format an outgoing message in whatever format you've chosen
with the Format menu or that you have configured as the default format on
Tools>Options>Mail Format. It has nothing to do with whether or not
attachments are sent.

This sounds like an issue with ActiveSync. Have you asked in
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync ?

I appreciate that is not what it means per se but that is what it means to
me. If it doesn't say "Let Outlook decide" then no mail attachments get
sent. That was my point.

Yes and am awaiting a reply there, with luck a helpful one.

The attachments do get sent. The point, however, is that only another
Outlook can read Rich Text attachments. Other mail clients, like Outlook
Express, simply ignore the attachments. Send your messages in Plain Text or
HTML format if you want your recipients to see your attachments.
