I have got outlook 2003 configured to send a copy of email to gmail but the
gmail also sends a copy to outlook 2003 when mail is sent to it. how do i get
outlook 2003 send a copy of incoming mail to gmail and gmail not sending a
copy of mail directed to it (gmail) to outlook 2003?

1. You might be better off configuring your GMail to use IMAP folders
instead POP Mail. You will need to set this in your GMail acct in the
options sections, first. And then set an IMAP acct in Outlook, then delete
the POP Acct for your GMail address, before you download again. So you can
have them at both locations. Make sure that you do some housecleaning
everyone in a while, so you do not exceed your mailbox quota.

2. Or create a message rule automatically delete the message when it gets
downloaded into Outlook.
The rule would look something like this:
When the FROM Line contains (e-mail address removed), or your default email address.
Delete It. (Do Not select Delete it from Server!)
Stop Processing More Rules.
**Be careful when you manually apply your message rules that this rule is
not chosen, when the Sent Items folder is opened**
