Outlook 2003, I can't hide the Outlook icon. Have tried the "hide always"
selection and it still does not hide. Any suggestions.

You can't hide the Outlook icon from the tray. "Hide When Minimize "
hides Outlook from the TaskBar but not the tray. You can choose not to
show the envelope notification from the tray if you like, but the
Outlook icon stays.

thank you, the option to hide should not be available in the customization
area if it can' t be done.

Not true--Outlook icon can be hidden if you like. I just did it. Make sure
you unlock the taskbar first and try it again.

Forgot to mention--make sure you are not using the icon customization by
right clicking on the Outlook icon. Use the Taskbar customization instead by
right clicking on the taskbar, properties, customize, then pick Always Hide.

still not working for me, are you using Outlook 2003? Also, I don't follow
your post below, I can't customize with a right click, just from the
taskbar-properties customize area.

if you use windows xp (possibly only with xp style) you can hide task bar
icons from the control panel, task bar applet.

xp style is the cute new look of the desktop - called eye candy by people
who prefer the boring classic windows 2000/98 look.

Only Outlook 2002/2003 has this ability, the former via a registry entry.
What's your version?

My problem is similiar, I am currently running Windows XP with MS office
2003, recently after exiting outlook, the outlook icon remains in the
notification area (with the clock), this never happened previously with
outlook. I have re-installed MS office (which did not correct the problem).
I checked the website for "How to remove items from the notification area in
Windows 2000" and it suggested ending the process with Task Manager (which
removed the outlook icon from the notification area). How do I stop it from
staying in the notification area when I have exited outlook without going
through the task manager?
Please advise
Thanx
