Outlook hangs at startup

All machines on the network have been working properly.
Yesterday, 3 Windows XP Pro had Outlook 2000 hang on
opening. The splash stays up with the Outlook window
behind it but closes after about 1+ minutes. Sometimes it
just hangs and I have to end program because it shows that
it is not responding. I receive no error messages. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled it on 1 machine with the
same results.

I looked at at the processes when starting Outlook and
Outlook.exe starts and then goes to 0% after a few seconds.

I have done a complete virus scan with nothin found using
the latest virus definitions. I have also turned off auto-
protect with the same results.

Try deleting or renaming your outcmd.dat file.

These machines you are referring to, are they used by
specific users? If so, do they have Personal Folders (PST)
setup? If they have personal folders, see if you can
remove the Personal folders from the Data File Management
while Outlook is closed. Right-click the Outlook icon on
the desktop, click Properties, then remove the personal
folder service from there. Open Outlook, which should open
fine, then re-add the service within Outlook by clicking
the File menu, selecting Data File Management, and re-
adding the personal folder services for the PST they use.

These machines have serveral users and they each have
a .pst file. I ran a scanpst.exe on one of the files and
it came back with no errors. I logged on as admin and
there was no 'internet email' setup for admin on that
machine. I created a 'internet email' account for him
using the wizard. After I finished, Outlook hung. I have
rebooted several times on all machines. Also if there is
no internet email or .pst file associated with the logged
on user, outlook still hangs on opening instead of giving
messages to create a connection or starting a wizard. If
I right click the outlook icon and select properties, it
is either blank and I can select 'add' to start the wizard
or If there is an account listed, then you can only view
the properties of that account. There are no profiles to
edit.
