Outlook freezes

I just deleted XP and relaoded it - re-installed all my basic programs. While
everything has slowed the BIG problems are that Outlook will not start and
when Window tells me to update the office update page freezes half way into
the download - No other pages freeze -

Any ideas? Should I delete XP once again and install Norton Anti-virus
before loaded my office 2000 with Outlook???
